John’s bad habit

My husband John has a terrible habit and he is the first to admit it. He’s been chewing/dipping Skoal for the past 25 years. In his defense he is very neat about it and no one would suspect he dips because of this.

When we were in the states he would pay between $3.50-$4.00 for a can that he could pick up just about anywhere so it made it easy for him to indulge himself in this yukky habit.

Since we have been in Costa Rica it’s become a skill to find skoal as there are only a few places that actually carry it. John will drive for miles to the only place that has it only to find that they are sold out or haven’t gotten in their shipment. Now we have a problem…for the last 4 or 5 months it seems NO ONE has Skoal or any type of chewing tobacco with the exception of some peach smelling stuff (smells like a peach wine cooler) and that is $7.00-$8.00 per can when he can find it.

My solution to this problem is STOP DIPPING! Unfortunately that doesn’t seem to be an option for him because now he has taken up smoking Cuban cigars (they are legal here) in addition to the wine cooler stuff.

Moral to this story….if you have a habit and choose to bring it with you to Costa Rica be prepared to be flexible and creative.
